With a flawless season and unbeatable record for the Lady Spikers, have gone down to fallback with yesterday’s game.
Ateneo Lady Eagles snatched their first ever finals appearance with a win over their archrival Lady Spikers. A thrice to beat advantage has come to a race to two for this both team.
The lady eagles dismantled the lady spikers on a dramatic win on set 2 making their presence known. The lady spikers was not able to take a set after set after the lady eagles rolled to 3 moving to the 4 sets making their way to the finish line.
However, Marano tried to save and carry with her team to halt the bleeding but just couldn’t stop the lady eagles from pouncing even with the rookies they have which played perfectly good in yesterday’s game. Galang having 14 points and Reyes contributing 11 markers. Cha Cruz was held only to 12 points in the entire game.
Game 2 will be held on Saturday at 2pm, San Juan Arena. A match to watch as these both team will go running for race to two. Lady Spikers would surely bounce back from this suprised lost and as for the lady eagles, who had tied the series and gunning for a win with momentum on their side.
UST coming from a win last Wednesday February 15, 2012 beating the Lady Tams 3 sets to one is one vital advantage for them because of the momentum that they will be carrying on today.
As for the Lady Eagles, coming from a lost to their Arch rivals De La Salle formulating a step ladder semi finals and a week off they may seem have both of everything a more practice time and manage to adjust their plays for today’s game. But as for them becoming the second best in UAAP Season 74 and notching their first ever twice to beat advantage was a big chance for this ladies to fulfill their very first ever appearance in the final four, a twice to beat advantage and being in the finals.
Banaticla who carried their team last Wednesday, had fought hard but it was enough because things were not going on her way scoring 12 points, as for Ortiz had led and helped her team by giving 22 points in which it made a chance for her team. UST now dropped to 3rd place of this Season.
But Ateneo, was undeniably on their a-game today despise losing on the 3rd set. They showed their hearts out that they can actually win and move forward to the Finals. Best Player Alyssa Valdez (former UST standout) gave her former alma mater an end to their journey scoring 22 points with the help of team captain Fille Cainglet with 22 points.
Ateneo play not on their own selves but by helping and having each others back to win this game and this is what happened today. The Lady Eagles play as a team and showed what they got and the results spoke.
Now the it’s start for the Lady Eagles to show what they really have a Heart to win and beat their rivals on a thrice. As for the arch rival Lady Spikers, its game on to defend their crown defeating only the lady eagles twice to be the Champion of this Season 74.
Game One will start on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 2:00 pm San Juan Arena. Best of both luck between the two teams.
